Children are God’s special gifts of trust given to their parents from God. God gifts parents with the task of bringing them up with the fear and admonition of the Lord instilled within them. As a child, you do not have the right, nor the ability to choose who your parents are, just as parents do not have a say in who their children are.. It is important to realize that even though children do not choose their parents, nor do parents choose their children, God pairs them together. Your parents are God’s best fit for you, as you are for them. This gives perspective on the importance of obeying your parents. Realize this, and begin to honor and respect them for the special role God gave them; to mold you into the best YOU!
God specifically instructs children to honor and respect their parents in the Bible.
Ephesians 6:2 states, “Honor your father and mother”–which is the first commandment with a promise.”
God commands children to obey their parents, but there is a promise that also comes with that commandment. The promise is that any child who honors his or her parents, will live a long and prosperous life. Again, you see it is not up to you to decide. If you want to live a long and prosperous life, then on the earth, honor your parents.
Obviously, it is important to obey your parents, but the question is how? One of the ways to honor your parents, is to accept and follow their instructions they give to you. God gave parents the mandate to train children up in the way that is best for them.
Proverbs 22:6 states, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Do not feel bad because your parents nag you, or constantly give you instruction. They are simply following through with what God instructed them to do, so that you will reach your potential and be the person God destined you to be.
In Psalm 127:3, the Word of God says, “Children are a heritage from the LORD, offspring a reward from him.”
This is how God sees you as a child, a heritage and a reward made individually in his image. In other words, each child is uniquely special. God wants the best for each of his children, giving them parents to guide them along the way. The only way God can ensure that you get the best training to prepare you for life is through the instruction and guidance of your parents. Do not let their ‘seemingly overbearing’ influences, or concerns about your life, offend you. When they are through with their God given mandate on you, everyone, including you, will be proud. God loves us so much, that he gives us earthly parents to demonstrate this love to us. Never forget that your parents love you, and that they are your most reliable earthly support, cultivating you for God’s kingdom.
