Envy is an evil that stems its root from the pit of hell. It goes with the opportunistic ills of hatred, bitterness, anger, and covetousness. An envious person is capable of any evil. He can slander, hate and even kill another person. If you are this way, you must quickly repent and ask God to forgive and help you deal with it. The Word of God warns that envy is a manifestation of the flesh and those engulf in it cannot inherit the kingdom of God. “Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God” Galatians 5: 19 – 21.

The problem with envious people is that they are always desirous of the advantages, possessions, or accomplishments of other people. Mind you, there is nothing wrong to aspire for great accomplishments in life. You can be inspired by the achievements of others, but you are not permitted to be envious of them.

It is important you know that success in life is relative. At every level, you can measure your success. However, an envious person will refuse to see any good in what they have achieved but would rather be envious of the accomplishments of others; even the accomplishments that does not equal their own. It is like the devil who became envious and desired to overthrow God. “But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High” Isaiah 14: 13 – 14.

The envy always have disastrous ends because their jealousy always lead them to do things that will bring them down. Cain, Ahab, Jezebel, Judas Iscariot, are some biblical examples. In your community, you would have seen or heard of those met their waterloo as a result of envy. It is bad and it is not good for you.
